Twitter for iPad

Who dares make any sort of announcement on the same day as Apple in the tech community? Twitter, that’s who. And it’s not impossible to have a successful product launch on the same day as Apple, just follow these simple steps. 1.) Make your product awesome. 2.) Make it free. 3.) Incorporate Apple somehow. Twitter’s iPad update follows this pretty closely, so take note. But don’t worry, there are many more free apps and game this week. You’ll for sure find some great stuff below.

  • Twitter - Finally, the iPad update.  Twitter now has an official iPad app.  It’s universal, and you’ll see it just as an update to the iPhone version, but it’s significantly different.  It has a side panel and expands content shared by tweets, like pictures, videos and links.  It’s a must have app for iPad users.
  • Epic Citadel - Remember the Epic tech demo at Apple’s special event earlier this week?  This is that.  If you haven’t left me already to download it, then you must need to find out what this is.  It’s only the most amazing tech demo for iPhone that can currently be had.  Basically, you can just walk around in a beautifully rendered environment that looks like it should be on a console on your TV, not in your hand.  Must be seen to be fully enjoyed.  Download it now.
  • Kiwi Camera - It might not do HDR like the new iOS Camera.app, but it will take pictures, apply some select filters, add a border and tweet for you.  The interface is retro and simple.
  • Gallaghers Pizza - I just had to post this app.  This is the official app of a pizza place very close to my hometown.  My hometown is fairly small, and I never considered this place to be on the cutting edge technology-wise, but apparently they are.  It’s even a universal app.  You can’t order pizza with it yet, but hey, I still think it’s pretty cool.  If you’ve heard of this place or live close by, do me a favor and leave me a comment.
  • N.O.V.A. HD Free - The free version of one of the best 3D games available for iPad.  Not only do you get to interact with the environment with multitouch controls—like pressing real buttons, twisting dials, etc.,—but you get to shoot stuff, too.  What more could you ask for?
  • NASA App HD - Explore the cosmos with NASA on your iPad.  If it’s NASA related, it’s probably here.  While you didn’t fulfill your childhood dream of becoming an astronaut, you can at least learn about it.
  • QuickReceipts - The makers of TurboTax offer this receipt app.  It automatically grabs your loyalty program membership receipt information at your favorite stores.  So, if you’re a Rewards Zone member at BestBuy, you’ll be able to have all of your receipts at your fingertips just by entering in your Rewards Zone membership details.  Great for keeping track of purchases or even when trying to return items.  You’ll need to sign up for a free account.
  • IKEA Catalogue - Download and browse the IKEA catalogue for 2011.  Admit it, this is where you’re going to buy most of your furniture anyway, so you might as well find out what you’re going to be buying next year right now.
  • Pocket Price Free - Quickly figure out how much you’re actually going to pay for something after applying a discount percent and tax rate.  Simple and effective.
  • Bleepa - Bleep out your cuss words in real life.  Alternatively, bleep out non-cuss words to make it appear as though you have the mouth of a sailor.  Either way, you’re conversations will become much more interesting.
  • Flixter Movies - Recently made free (forever?), this app gets movie times, previews and ratings, and allows you to browse DVD descriptions, manage your Netflix queue and more.  It’s one of the most useful movie apps available.
  • Chordipedia - Free for a limited time.  Grab this keyboard chord app to help learn new chords and scales.  It also functions as a virtual piano.
  • Star Trek Phaser - This app is free for a limited time, so if you’re a Trekkie, you’ll probably want to grab it now if you haven’t already.
  • AccelGolf: Golf GPS Rangefinder - Also free for a limited time, this app helps you with your golf game by giving you accurate course maps.  Combine that with GPS data and you should know exactly how close you are to the pin at over 24,000 courses worldwide.  Plus, it’s a score card.  So, while you’re busy trying to use every last piece of information to save your game, you can save some paper too.  This also lets you store game history.  Nifty.
  • Nubi Do - This is free for a limited time, which should have already expired.  But last I checked, this ToDo list manager is still free.  Make sure you remember the tasks that need to be done by putting them in a list.  Just keep it to yourself though, no one likes other people’s lists.
