Just a quick note on the latest Android distribution data published by the Google Android Developers for the last 14 day period ending February 1. As expected, Android Gingerbread still tops the Android OS distribution, getting 58.6% share for all of its flavors – 2.3-2.3.2 and 2.3.3-2.3.7. Following at a distance is Android Froyo with 27.8% of the Android installation. The rest of the Android smartphone OS installation are as follow – Eclair with 7.6%, Donut with 1% and Cupcake with 0.6%. For tablets, Android Honeycomb OS and all its flavors are installed on 3.4% of all Android devices. While the distribution share for Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich is only at 1% of all Android devices. Comparing these with last months data will show you that Ice Cream Sandwich showed a slight increase in distribution which is pretty much expected since more Android units were released last month. Quite surprisingly, Android Gingerbread distribution also increased as compared with last month’s data. It would be interesting to find out how this trend will be affected once Android 4.0 ICS gets to be available for other devices in addition to new Android devices that will be released in the coming days.
